Hudson Valley Garlic Festival
The Hudson Valley Garlic Festival™ began in 1989 when Pat Reppert of Shale Hill Farm organized a small promotional event for her herb business and New York State garlic. Rapidly growing in popularity, the festival soon outgrew her farm, and in 1992, the Kiwanis Club of Saugerties took over, hosting it at Cantine Field. Attendance surged from a few hundred to tens of thousands, peaking at over 53,000 in 2007. Over the years, the festival expanded to two days, added entrance fees, and improved traffic and logistics. Despite occasional rain, it remains a beloved fall tradition celebrating garlic with food, entertainment, lectures, and a bustling marketplace.
